Essential Oils: Exactly How (And When) to Use Them

Essential Oils can be really confusing.

I know when I started to incorporate them into my life I had a TON of questions, concerns and I was not really sure where to find answers. We hope to alleviate some of those concerns for you and give you some inside scoop on essential oils!

Here a few hard and fast rules:

Rule 1:

Always dilute when it comes to children. This is best practice. Children are more sensitive than adults and their systems are smaller so their needs are totally different. Not to mention that essential oils are very strong, a little goes a long way.

  • For babies 3 - 12 months you should dilute one drop of essential oil to 2 tsp of carrier oil.
  • For children ages 1 - 5 you should dilute 4 drops of essential oil in 2 tsp of carrier oil.

Rule 2:

Did you know that 1 drop of peppermint essential oil  is equivalent to 28 cups of herbal peppermint tea? Because essential oils are so very strong we do not recommend them for internal consumption.

Rule 3:

Store your essential oils in a place without direct sunlight and out of the reach of children. Direct sunlight will weaken the potency of your essential oils!

Lavender Oil

Commonly known as the swiss army knife of essential oils, this oil has endless uses. You can dilute this oil and use it daily for: skin irritations, soothe bug bits, add to epsom salt for a relaxing bath, add to a diffuser to help create a calm and restful environment.

Peppermint Oil

A powerhouse essential oil that has a big impact from a small drop! Dilute peppermint in carrier oil and massage into sore muscles, back of teck, or use on forehead & temples for headache relief. Dilute a drop in your hands and place them over your nose and take deep breaths to help relieve sinus congestion.Â
