Remembering Lucienne - Our Lady of Rest Elderly Home Says Goodbye

The team at Our Lady of Rest Elderly Home has experienced a loss - Lucienne, one of the first residents to come to them - and they need funds to offset the funeral costs!

At Rooted for Good, our goal is twofold. The first is to provide you with quality skincare products that allow your natural beauty to shine. But we are honored to say that our second goal is to uplift someone in need in a developing country with 10% of our sales every month. This month, 10% of your purchases will be helping the team of Our Lady of Rest Elderly Home in L’Asile, Haiti to remember a very special lady.

Lucienne had two children who both tragically passed away leaving her to live by herself. One day, she had a bad accident where she fell and broke her femur. When she arrived at the hospital, they told her they were unable to treat her, saying she had to go somewhere else. Tragically, she had no family to take her to another hospital or to care for her; so, she went untreated. Her leg " healed" crooked, leaving her without the ability to walk. With good intention, another woman started taking care of Lucienne; but, she wasn't bathed or fed often enough. Her days were typically spent sitting by herself alone in the dark.

When Our Lady of Rest invited her into the nursing home, Lucienne was ecstatic! She had a thick country accent that was hard to understand, but she loved very intensely! Her favorite pass times were holding Gabriel (the infant son of Bea, who manages the home) and listening attentively during prayer and scripture sharing.

Amanda, one of those who knew Lucienne, had this to say about her: “As soon as you would walk into the room, Madam Lucienne would lift her head up and give you the biggest most beautiful smile. Her joy was contagious and her willingness to always praise the Lord through her physical discomfort was inspiring. She had every reason to not sing and pray, but she was grateful for every single breath God had given her. She enjoyed everyone’s company and it was just peaceful to sit in her presence and say nothing. She is greatly missed but with great hope, we know she is rejoicing in Heaven where there is no more sorrow and mourning.”

Another friend, Braxton, shared the following: “Lucianne was one of the first people I met when I arrived in Haiti. The workers before me at the home had already known her, and when I met her, she was living in an outhouse of a neighbor who had kindly taken her in. She wasn’t surrounded by family, and communication with her was difficult—her strong accent made it hard for me to fully understand her. Despite her hardships, she was a simple, sweet old lady who carried herself with quiet dignity. When we moved her into Our Lady of Rest Nursing Home, everything changed for her. Gone were the loneliness and the discomfort of her previous living conditions. She immediately fell in love with the home—cherishing the interaction with others, delighting in prayers, and finding deep joy in listening to the Bible and the rosary. She loved the food, the companionship, and the playful moments when people would joke with her. Lucianne was a joy—simple, kind, and full of quiet strength. Though life had not been easy, she found happiness in the little things. She was loved, and she will be remembered.”

As you can tell from the testimony of her friends and those who dedicated their lives to serving her, Lucienne was a joy to be around and despite her great misfortunes, she never complained. She was an inspiration and a holy woman of God! Thank you so much for helping pay tribute to this woman's life through your purchases this month! In a cultural climate where selfishness and individualism run rampant, know your money goes to support those in need with wholesome, family values through your skincare purchases at Rooted for Good.
