After School Tuition Program in Goa
Every month here at Rooted for Good, we partner with a program in order to give financial aid to those in need. 10% of all our sales goes to a different program every month through our Good for Others partnerships.
This month feels special, because Brooke and I were actually able to visit this amazing after school program here, and one of the poorest communities in Goa. The family that runs the program has become friends of ours, and it’s an honor to support their work! They have dedicated themselves to inviting children from the slum community to work on homework, study, and learn each day.
Occasionally these kids get to work on crafts and do artistic and creative crafts they would otherwise not have the opportunity to do. Recently our boys brought some of their legos to share and it was beautiful to see the boys group enjoying legos for the first time! In addition to the daily after school tuition program, our friends Suresh and Rebecca have even started a once a week group for the tween/teen girls and boys respectively where the kids learn special life skills and build up their confidence. We have been able to witness firsthand the impact that their work is having on this community.
While there are so many ways that we can support this work, Suresh shared a very particular need that has come up recently regarding a drainage issue. As it turns out the municipality is having some issues with the drainage around the building which hosts the after school program, and the costs to remedy the issue is well in excess of the show string budget on which this outreach is run.
It may not be the most picture worthy project, but we are so blessed that the Rooted Community can come alongside these amazing people and meet a need that would otherwise feel insurmountable!
