Rooted For Good is excited to be partnering with CELTRA for the month of October. We are so blessed to hear about the beautiful work they are doing in Kibera, Kenya. This organization is truly serving Jesus - present in the vulnerable children they serve.

During the month of October, 10% of Rooted's SALES and 100% of our Tips will go towards CELTRA's mission to "is to

empower people to take more control of their lives and become stronger and more independent by

using their thoughts, visualization, words, faith and actions. Focusing on children who are either being sexually abused, being trafficked either as sex slaves or terrorists or those who are abusing drugs."

CELTRA's main areas of focus are: shelter, school, Christian outreach and mentorship.

"CELTRA's shelter program works with children in the disadvantaged, raw emotional state. This shelter is a

safe haven for these children after going through emotional and physical abuse. Feelings of shame, guilt, self-blame, embarrassment, and confusion underlie the unrefined feeling of anger. Thus, this child is burdened by overwhelming emotions during a period in life that should be untroubled and carefree. As a result, they need specific therapies and counseling tailored to their trauma-based needs. CELTRA provide shelter, counseling and other needs to these children. The first step in the children’s counseling has to be a safe and friendly environment. This is an ongoing program to address the special needs of traumatized child who is either abandoned or sexually abused. Since many children in our community

witness and are victims of domestic and sexual abuse each day in their own homes and neighborhoods, we believe that this program plays a vital role in providing a safe place for them to overcome their trauma. CELTRA values the empowerment of young lives through advocacy and support. Abuse is a learned behavior, and without intervention, it will cycle from generation to generation.

Note - Unfortunately, CELTRA closed our shelter due to lack of finances to run it and now some of our children’s; sometimes they use either the tent or the container to sleep. The container is also our store, kitchen and the office during the day. It’s our prayer that we will be able to raise funds and buy our own space. This will help to avoid more complications especially to our weak boys and girls who are HIV/AID’s."

Another important focus of CELTRA is Education!

"CELTRA wants to meet this need by providing academic sponsorships for children in the Kibera community. Our goal is to raise funds, which will allow sponsorships to be provided for vulnerable children within the community. Equipped with an education, these children have the potential to make

a difference within their families and community, as well as change the direction of their future. Sponsorships provide more than an education; they also give encouragement, support, and hope."

CELTRA knows the importance of sharing God's love with these children who have sadly experienced real evil in their lives.

"CELTRA runs a children church every Sunday in Kibera. This is meant to meet the spiritual needs of the children we serve as well as those that do not attend church in the community. We do sing, share testimonies, word of God and close by sharing a hot meal. Most of the children in slums they hardly go to church and most of the time lack of food is the main contributing factor. CELTRA believes not only sharing with them the word of God, but also sharing with them a hot meal is one way of sharing God’s love."

The final focus of CELTRA is Mentoring. "Mentoring creates positive impact in a child’s lives. Children with mentors have higher rates of completing schools, graduation and are less likely to drop out of school. They find more self-confidence, self-esteem, and are able to create big goals for themselves. Additionally, studies show that behavior, attitudes, and relationships improve when a child has a mentor. Mentors help children’s grow and close the social and/or economic opportunity gap."

As you can see from learning about CELTRA and their mission, Rooted For Good is honored to be partnering with them in serving these beautiful kids. We know that our Rooted community will generously step in to assist in changing the lives of these kids through shelter, education, Christian outreach and mentorship.
